Everything matters. The smallest details can sometimes mean the difference between success and failure. Unlike a traditional college experience, where you primarily attend classes and the rest is left to chance, Ocean’s Edge School of Worship is a community of Christian musicians that is vibrant and challenging both in and out of the classroom. You are pushed to grow both spiritually and musically.
— Andrew Wooddell - Executive Director & Overseer Worship Ministries

AUDITION DATES FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

Official, on-campus auditions for the 2017-2018 school year have finished.  If you would like to be scheduled for an on-site audition, please contact julianak@calvaryftl.org to schedule a time. Thank you!

Our auditions typically take place on Saturdays but we encourage applicants to arrive on Friday and attend classes.  This is a great chance for you to spend a day in the life of an OE student.  (If school is not in session during your audition date, this will not be an option).

The on-site audition will be about 30 minutes in length and consist of your two prepared pieces, an interview and is concluded with a group tour of the campus. If you require accompaniment for your prepared piece you may bring an accompanist or a track.  (Vocalists, please come prepared with a track without vocals).

Below are the guidelines to use in preparing for your audition. Make sure to come prepared to display your strengths regardless of style of music. We look forward to meeting you!

You are not required to audition on site.  If you would like to submit a dvd with your application, you may.  You can also upload a youtube video of your two pieces and send it to JulianaK@calvaryftl.org

VIDEO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

For our  video auditions, read the following guidelines carefully:

  • Please use a stationary camera shot that gives a view of you and your instrument as you play. Keep it simple.
  • The recording must be un-edited (no breaks from beginning to end of each song and the audio needs to be raw).
  • We can accept a YouTube, Dropbox, Google Drive or Vimeo link.
  • Remember to play two songs of contrasting styles. Pick material that features your strengths and your range.
  • Introduce the songs on camera. For example, “This is “Unchanging" from Chris Tomlin.”
  • At the end of your video,we would greatly appreciate you answering the following questions (please keep each answer to under five minutes):

Why do you want to attend Ocean's Edge and how do you expect the experience to impact you in the present and the future?

How and when did you become a Christian?  Please describe your salvation experience and any significant spiritual events in your life.

Please provide us with (2) examples of your Production skill. This could be in either audio or visual form, and could be from a live event or a studio production. A few examples based on each discipline covered in the production track are included below:

OTHER INSTRUMENTS

As a school for modern worship, our curriculum will focus primarily on the typical modern rhythm section instruments (drums, bass, guitar, keyboard) and voice. However, we understand the value and potential in using woodwinds, brass, and strings in a contemporary setting and will accept a limited number of students on these instruments as well. The audition guidelines will be the same for keyboard, guitar and bass listed above.

Financial Information

Calculating the value of a post-secondary education can be difficult. However, what you gain at Ocean's Edge School of Worship is an experience that no college offers. You will receive training that has direct application to music ministry today. You will grow in your faith through our Bible training and mentoring. You will gain experience by doing ministry here and now. When you leave, you will know your way around worship ministry because you will have done it for a year.

Students who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion.  A part of the OE process involves helping our students to develop their resumes, and helping them find places to look for opportunities in worship ministry or continue their education.
