Auditions

Auditions will be scheduled by our Director of Admissions after receiving your application.

February 11th
April 14th
May 19th
July 21st

Our auditions take place on Saturday but we encourage applicants to arrive on Friday and attend classes.  This is a great chance for you to spend a day in the life of an OE student.

The on-site audition will be 30 minutes in length and consist of your two prepared pieces, an interview and a music theory placement test and is concluded with a group tour of the campus. If you require accompaniment for your prepared piece you may bring an accompanist or play-along CD.

Below are the guidelines to use in preparing for your audition. Make sure to come prepared to display your strengths regardless of style of music. We look forward to meeting you!

You are not required to audition on site.  If you would like to submit a dvd with your application, you may.  You can also upload a youtube video of your two pieces and send it to jess@oceansedgeschool.com.

Keyboard, Guitar, and Bass

Each audition will contain the following:

Prepared Piece: Perform 2 pieces of contrasting style, with at least one from a worship artist or other well-known artist. Please play pieces that you are comfortable with and that show us your strengths.

Placement: In order to place you with an appropriate teacher, you will be asked to demonstrate your overall knowledge of your instrument. You will be asked to demonstrate your ability to read chord sheets for your instrument, your knowledge of scales (if any), and your overall method of practicing

Voice

Each audition will contain the following:

Prepared Piece: Perform 2 pieces of contrasting style, with at least one from a worship artist or other well-known artist. Please sing selections that you are comfortable with and that show us your strengths.

Placement: In order to place you with an appropriate teacher, you will be asked to demonstrate your overall technical ability. You will be asked to demonstrate your ability to sing harmonies and your overall method of practicing.

Drumset

Each audition will contain the following:

Prepared Piece: Perform 2 pieces of contrasting style, with at least one from a worship artist or other well-known artist. Please play pieces that you are comfortable with and that show us your strengths.

Placement: In order to place you with an appropriate teacher, you will be asked to demonstrate your overall technical ability. You will be asked to demonstrate your ability to play different grooves, your knowledge rudiments (if any), and your overall method of practicing.

Other Instruments

As a school for modern worship, our curriculum will focus primarily on the typical modern rhythm section instruments (drums, bass, guitar, keyboard) and voice. However, we understand the value and potential in using woodwinds, brass, and strings in a contemporary setting and will accept a limited number of students on these instruments as well. The audition guidelines will be the same for keyboard, guitar and bass listed above.
