Ocean’s Edge School of Worship is a ministry of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale and therefore falls under the governance of the church leadership. More specifically, Ocean’s Edge School of Worship is part of the Worship Ministry of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale.

Our Beliefs:  The Balance

In a broad general sense, Calvary Chapel is the middle ground between fundamentalism and Pentecostalism in modern Protestant theology.

Fundamentalism holds to the literal interpretation of the Scriptures, believing that they are divinely inspired and inerrant. Pentecostalism emphasizes the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the exercise of spiritual and scriptural gifts of the Spirit which had fallen dormant in the main line churches. Pentecostalism restored to the church the importance of gifts of the Spirit and the power of God for the believer today.

Over the years, however, fundamentalism, while it clung to the integrity of God's Word, tended to become rigid, legalistic, and un-accepting of spiritual gifts; while Pentecostalism became enthusiastic and emotional at the expense of the teaching of God's Word.

Calvary Chapel is the balance between the two. At Calvary we believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Bible, and we encourage their exercise, but always decently and in order, and with the primary emphasis on the Word of God, which we look to as our primary rule of faith.

Because of this balance, Calvary Chapel services are designed to be centered around the verse-by-verse teaching of God's Word, and special "after glow" services are provided where the gifts of the Holy Spirit can operate freely under the leadership of mature Christians.

Calvary Chapel also differs from most mainline churches in its style of church government. Our church government is simple; we believe that the pastor is responsible for the church, responsible to hear from God, and responsible to feed and love His people faithfully. Elders are appointed in the larger churches to help the pastor care for the spiritual needs of the congregation, as are deacons to help the pastor care for the material needs of the church.

In addition, our church has a church board that is made up of mature Christian businessmen who can advise our pastor with respect to the business operations and decisions of the church, such as property management and investments.

Our Church's Mission

CONNECTING PEOPLE TO GOD
The love of God changes lives. No matter who you are or where you’ve come from, the message of Jesus is all about God’s love for you. As we connect to God through Bible teaching, prayer, and worship, we will experience the transforming power of Christ’s love in our lives.

CONNECTING PEOPLE TO PEOPLE
God never intended for us to go through life alone. We were created for relationship. When we experience life surrounded by others who share our love for God, we’ll not only build lasting friendships, but we’ll come to realize that we belong to a family, we’re home.

CONNECTING PEOPLE TO OUTREACH
Every day God pursues us with His unrelenting love. And it’s because of His love that we seek opportunities to reach out and serve others. By reflecting God’s heart and living like Jesus, we give others the chance to want to get to know Him for themselves.

Our school has been designed from the ground up with the specific purpose of providing training and education to fulfill our mission. Students are being personally raised up by experienced Christian musicians. Oceans Edge School of Worship has been carefully designed to meet the needs of those who are called to worship ministry. Because programs don't make disciples, but people do, we limit the number of students to maintain a close-knit environment that promotes mentoring relationships between staff and students. Because we desire to see well-rounded, competent, and Godly believers at the end of our year together, we train the whole person, not just the musician part. To this end, our school targets the three core areas we believe to be critical in worship ministry: Ministry and Leadership, Musicianship and Personal Development.

Our Vision

Oceans Edge School of Worship was founded with a specific purpose to provide training and education for the next generation of worship leaders, Christian musicians and artists. Based out of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, we provide an environment combining personal mentoring and discipleship with modern music, technology and leadership training in an approach that will equip students for a lifetime in ministry.

Biblical courses are taught by seasoned teachers, pastors, and guest teachers who give a relevant, fresh perspective of Gods word, with an emphasis on its relation to worship. Musical studies begin with the building blocks of music through theory, ear training, songwriting and challenging private lessons with experienced professionals. Performance ensemble classes place students into teams and give real performance and leading opportunities with coaching from experienced musicians. Music Technology focuses on the creation and production of recording and how to successfully complete recording projects using modern music software.

Leadership courses teach people skills, personal and professional management, leadership, and organization preparing students for whatever career path they choose.  As we learn from the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:15, the possession of skill alone is not adequate in Gods eyes. We are challenged, even required, to develop and invest in what we have been given with the hope we will one day be told, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Students learn to stretch their abilities, develop a plan for tackling complex tasks, generating successful ideas, communicate clearly, move beyond their comfort zone, and inspire others to take action. We recognize that ministries can benefit from proven and Godly business strategies. We strive for students to succeed and offer specific training to be effective personally and professionally.

At Oceans Edge School of Worship, we understand that musical skill and Biblical knowledge are meaningless to ministry without personal character and spiritual maturity. Therefore, personal development is at the core of everything we do. Spiritual lessons are best learned by experience and Oceans Edge School of Worship has been built from the ground up to be that place of challenge and change for each student. A spiritually mature staff, God-centered curriculum, and structured mentorship program all work together to achieve our mission – – to make disciples.

Oceans Edge School of Worship seeks to be a leader in equipping the next generation of Christian worship leaders and musicians to utilize their gifts and talents to impact their world for Jesus Christ. Through development in the core areas of Worship, Leadership, and Discipleship, we will help our students strengthen their gifts, mature as Christian leaders and grow closer to the Lord.

Our hope is to be a catalyst to those who are called to serve in music ministry, fulfilling Gods call in their life by equipping them both spiritually and musically. We strive to empower and equip students to fulfill their calling. At Oceans Edge School of Worship, this is our single purpose. Our vision is to be an innovative ministry that invests in people so they in turn can invest in others. The development of this school is in response to an overwhelming need for fully equipped musicians and worship leaders in the body of Christ. Those who know what is needed to be effective in ministry and desire to see the kingdom of God grow as the next generation takes their place developed the program.
