Doug Farrar is the director of Ocean’s Edge School of Worship. His education and ministry experience have equipped him perfectly for designing and overseeing a worship school. He is a visionary and you know you’re about to get a serious dose of vision when he announces he’s “goin’ to crazy town!” Doug has been playing drums for over 35 years. He graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Music Education. From there, he was a band director for ten years while earning his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership where he went on to be an assistant principal for 5 years. Doug has been playing drums at Calvary Chapel, Fort Lauderdale for 15 years. He’s a beast. Sometimes we’re afraid to let him in the drum cage (get it, instead of out of the cage?) in front of students because they’ll be so intimidated they may never want to sit on a drum throne again. He knows everything about leadership, theory and his “dabbling” on the keys will blow your mind. If you plan on ever meeting Doug, look forward to laughing-a lot. Look forward to lots of “Doug talks.” Look forward to your life being better for knowing him. Doug is married to his beautiful wife, Sharon, and has three children who all share in his incredible giftings: Matthew, Daniel and baby Emma.
Jessica Busboom (Yes, that is her real last name. How do you pronounce it? Literally like a bus exploding: BUS-BOOM!) pretty much runs this joint. She is head of the vocal department at Ocean’s Edge and teaches music theory, ear training, ensembles and leads mentor groups. She has been singing on the Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Worship team for 10 years and knows her stuff. She graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz and Studio Music. She can make anyone sing and sing good. Jessica is an amazing worship leader/small group leader/song writer/cook/mural painter/teacher/wife/party thrower/Christian (Yeah!)/vocalist/theory beast/performer/truth teller-she’s super woman. She does it all. You’ll want her in your life to push you, encourage you, teach you, all while making you squawk like a monkey during private lessons. Jessica is married to Todd a.ka. “Todd the Bod” who lets us host a bunch of parties at his awesome house.

We are very excited to introduce Kyle Cummings, the newest addition to the Ocean’s Edge School of Worship staff! Kyle oversees our Artist Development Track and teaches songwriting, Ensembles, Pro tools, and leads a mentor group. He and his awesome wife, Kristin (Director, Doug Farrar calls them “a power couple.” It’s true) recently moved here after spending 6 years in Lynchburg, Virginia. Kyle has a degree in Worship and Music Ministry from Liberty University where he played drums on the Campus Praise Band (guys, this is a big deal). After graduating, he pursued record producing and produced several projects along with his own CD. So for a few years, yeah, he produced a whole bunch of music and on top of that, lived out another dream and went on tour with several Christian artists/bands. He was the drummer for Anthem Lights before we stole him away. (Easy teen girls, he’s married). Kyle is such an excellent example of leadership. He will not settle for doing things the way they are done simply because "that’s the way they are done." He is always striving to find the best, most effective solution and will push you to do the same.
Andrew Strickland is the worship leader at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale’s satellite campus in Boca Raton. He heads up our worship leading and discipleship programs. If you have a problem, go to him. He’s the ultimate problem solver and expert on dealing with things beyond your years. He constantly inspires students and staff to never stop growing and learning. Andrew also holds a special place in our hearts-he attended our first class here at OE. Andrew’s a skilled musician and worship leader with a wonderful heart that has formed an amazing team. You can’t help but want to be around him. Not only can he sing and play a mean guitar, he also can impersonate anyone. If you’re sad, find him. He’ll make you laugh ‘till you want to die. (And if he fails at making you laugh, you can talk to his amazing wife, Bonnie. She’s equally as funny).
To get to “The Farrar” you have to go through “The Fenton.” Jamie Fenton is Doug Farrar’s assistant. She’s very administratively gifted and this woman knows how to get things done! Jamie grew up around these parts. After traveling to Europe and Africa for missions, she served as the mission’s coordinator for the Liquid High School ministry, and dove into high school girls’ discipleship. Music is engrained in her and her amazing family. Jamie graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s of Music Degree in Piano Performance. You should see her play. She has chops. While working toward her degree, Jamie and a few other students pioneered Calvary On Campus, an on-campus Bible Study and outreach ministry. Jamie teaches class keys, private piano lessons, mentors, and is our office prayer warrior. Jamie is a newlywed and is enjoying life with her husband, Mark.
If you’ve ever called Ocean’s Edge School of Worship, you’ve probably talked with Jessica Buikema. (There are two important Jessicas that work here-one’s last name is Buikema and the other is Busboom-we typically call them by their last name to avoid confusion). Now that you know the face that goes with the name you probably can’t pronounce, you should know that #1: No, she never went through the program and #2: Yes, though her voice could be confused for a small child’s, she actually is the one you’ll want to talk to about admissions, finances, housing, and pretty much anything else you need to know before arriving to school. She’s pretty dang good at answering e-mails and phone calls as quickly as possible so please, ask away. Go on. Try her. Do it.
Teaching Staff
At Ocean's Edge School of Worship, you’ll be taught by musicians, mentors and ministers with real world experience, Christian integrity, and a heart for investing in others. Our staff, adjunct faculty, guest artists, and speakers bring their professional experience and knowledge of equipment, production, technology, leadership, ministry and performance into the school where you can learn from it. Because the staff is continuing their own pursuits as artists, they bring current and relative trends, as well as “tried and true” techniques for success, right into the classroom.
The staff consists of a core group of administrators, teachers, and mentors, but we also supplement instruction by using additional adjunct staff. These additional staff members allow us to provide students with the best possible instruction by providing a variety of teachers who are experts in their respective areas.
