Musicianship

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”      Ecclesiastes 9.10 NIV

Excellence in our lives honors the Lord. In passages such as Psalm 33.1-3, 1 Chronicles 15.22, and Ecclesiastes 9.10, we see the bible speaking of diligence, hard work and skill. Musical excellence helps facilitate worship, while poor musicianship distracts from it. Our vision at OE is to help each of our students develop their musical gifts so they may grow into competent, well-rounded musicians.

Our Musicianship Program has been built from the ground up to give you what is essential to today’s worship musician. Like other music schools, OE students will study their principal instrument, whether voice, bass, drums, keyboard or guitar. However, the real difference at OE is in the other courses. You’ll take theory courses that are relevant to music ministry today and are directly applied in our songwriting and arranging classes. You’ll take instrument and voice lessons from experienced musicians, and apply what you learn in musical ensembles that regularly play in various ministry settings. You’ll also use industry standard music software so you can learn the skills necessary to develop your own music for both live and studio settings.

Students will have hands-on experience playing in a musical ensemble regularly where they will receive feedback from our staff to improve individual, team playing, and leadership skills. We teach songwriting and arranging to prepare our students to find their own style, as well as understanding current styles in worship music. We also provide an overview of production technology, such as recording, lighting, video and web production and electronic music. All of these opportunities combine to create a unique atmosphere which promotes musical excellence.
